   1. Mother Earth, the first goddess of pre-diluvial Athens.
   2. The earth in the cosmogony of the early Egyptians. One of the four children of Ra, the husband of Nut and the father of Osiris, Isis, Set, Horus the elder, and Nephthys. He is represented as lying prone while his brother Shu supports the heavens over him. One of the great company of Heliopolis.
   Egyptian spelling was Geb;
   alternative spelling Gae. Among his titles was the Great Cackler, with the goose as his symbol, as he had laid the cosmic egg. He is figured as a man with a goose on his head.
